Communication and Social Skills Supports

Our classes offer a safe and welcoming space for neurodivergent individuals to develop and refine their communication and social skills at their own pace. We embrace all forms of communication, including letter boards, typing, spelling, AAC, speech, writing, and communication software. At eBodhi, we believe that communication is a collaborative effort, so we invite aides and communication partners to join us in our classes and sessions.

eBodhi approach to communication skills:

Anxiety can significantly impact open communication for neurodivergent individuals, stemming from factors like communication styles, pace, and fears of failure or rejection. To help address these challenges, eBodhi employs several strategies:

  • Topic-Specific Communication: Many neurodivergent individuals prefer discussing specific subjects that interest them or are more factual. Casual chit-chat isn’t for everyone! Our classes focus on introducing age-appropriate topics that foster enjoyable and natural interactions. For instance, we present concepts like timelines within the context of history, allowing each participant to share something meaningful about their own timeline.

  • Safe Spaces: Environments with loud noises or bright lights can be overwhelming and hinder social interactions. Our online class format allows participants to start their journey in the comfort of their own homes.

  • Peer and Team Support: Being surrounded by understanding and supportive peers is crucial. We encourage your support circle to be present as you take your first steps toward social communication.

  • Embracing Differences: We recognize that what is considered "normal" may not apply to everyone. At eBodhi, we celebrate individuality and empower participants with knowledge, providing the option to engage as they feel comfortable.
